The Biblical Model For Maniacs In Ministry

Mark 5
A Maniac Evangelist

James 2
It isn’t enough to know Jesus: Does He know you?

There is evidence of a change, publicly acknowledged. The change is real because Christ had done the work! Because salvation is the work of God demonstrating the glory of God!

Ezekiel 36

Ephesians 2

Let’s continue in 15...and they were afraid.

They are afraid because the power of God unto salvation has been made manifest to them. They see the evidence before them as a clear testimony to the deity of Christ and their own total depravity.

They foolishly reject Christ and want Him to leave.

(Jesus left)

(Paul conveys the same intent in Philippians)

Philippians 1

Alternately, he approached the priests and the pharisees in the temple about his calling, was advised to attend seminary and petitioned the government to grant him a 501c3 non-profit tax exemption.

He heard, he hastened, and he hunkered down to do the work.

This isn’t an attack on education, biblical offices and accountability but rather emphasizing individual equipping and responsibility to fulfill the great commission.

1 Corinthians 1

The calling is to the common man, the under dog, the foolish things, a maniac! ...so that God gets the glory. But it comes at a cost.

"It will cost something to walk slow in the parade of the ages, while excited men of time rush about confusing motion with progress. But it will pay in the long run and the true Christian is not much interested in anything short of that" - A W Tozer

2 Timothy 4

It will cost you

Matthew 5
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

It will cost you.

The people of Decapolis no longer saw a maniac (he still had scars but the maniac had died).

They saw the radical work of God and it demonstrated the glory of God.

Matthew 10:

It will cost you something alright... It may cost you everything.

“We do not choose suffering simply because we are told to, but because the one who tells us to describes it as the path to everlasting joy.”
John Piper

Seem foolish to you?

The world could use a few more maniacs.
